Comment: Hi - just bought the Zi8 last night and my wife shot the first video this afternoon. It was 25 seconds long and the file size was 40 MB. Is this right? Am I doing something wrong? I'm fearing if shoot something 8-9 mins long it will never load to youtube or facebook. Any suggestions???

Comment: QUESTION!
I haven't updated my Zx1 to 1.06 just yet. But one of the issues I've had with the ZX1 was the high pitched sound whenever the LCD screen was in operation. Which means the high pitch sound is absent only when recording with the camera plugged into the TV because the LCD is off.
Will this update perhaps get rid of the sound? Either by allowing the LCD screen to be turned off during recording, or making the microphone less sensitive to high frequencies like the one coming form the LCD screen.

Comment: Hi - I was just about to buy this camera but saw all the negative comments regarding the vertical lines. I haven't seen a response here recently regarding what will or could be done for this. Is the problem defective sensors or is the problem related to software that could be fixed with a firmware update? If I were to buy the camera now, if a fix, even a hardware fix came out later, would that be covered by Kodak? Thanks!

Comment: I am waiting on this supposed 1.06 firmware update to get released. I've also been trying to get help for the last week. I got my problems (the same ones as everyone else) escalated to a Margaret G., who asked for me to send vid samples, but didn't give a direct e-mail addy to send anything back to. I sent a response through the web form and to connect@kodak.com (I got a generic "out of the office until..." response form that, BTW) and I am still waiting to hear something back.

Comment: hi. after getting my third zi8 because of the blue streaks being really bad i then have to exchange the third because of dead pixels on the lcd screen. so i go and get my 4th from the shop only to get it home and that has a dead pixel on the screen. i have been told i have 28 days to get a refund so i think i might take them up on there ofter and never get another kodak zi8 again.:-(i really like this camera but i am lossing faith in it fast

Comment: Just got a Zi8, has the (common i guess) issues of high pitch noise, which is fixed by this upgrade right. I found this site as I was researching a different sound problem. When I took a few test vids it had a loud wind/white noise type sound on playback. Seemed to go away slowly with each new vid taken. It would be gone for awhile, then I would take a new vid and it would be back, loud as ever, then slowly go away with eacn new vid as before. Loudest in wvga mode. More I use it, the less often it happens. Loud enough to ruin vid though. I also have the other common issues, vertical line issue in 720p, the sudden reduction in lighting about halfway zoomed out in lower light, and have noticed sometimes the symbols at bottom of screen are cut in half when recording/play back, but return to normal when switched to different screen.

Comment: Hello!
Yes, I have the same issue as Ernest. My new Zi8. We are getting odd blue stripes when we record our video - ruined a birthday video :(. Will this firmware update fix it, or do we need to exchange it for a new camera? Also, is there a way that I can fix the videos that I've already taken?
Thanks for your help!!!!

Comment: I updated my zx1 firmware to the latest 1.6 and for my surprise it decreased the sound(very stuffy), with the 1.05 firmware the sound was more clear, now I don't know how can I revert the firmware, do you have the same problem?

Comment: Hello, Mary-Irene, I just got a Zi8 camera today. I thought I was getting a great camera at a great price. I bring it home and start recording, only to see streaks running up and down the video. I tested in various light levels, settings, etc. I then jump online to see if I'm doing something wrong with the camera. What I find is that many people are having this same problem. I spent 8 hours today at 4 different stores trying to select the best camera. I thought I had. But, the video the Zi8 produces is shameful. What is Kodak's commitment to customers who have to spend more time, money and effort to get a working camera? I want to love this camera. It's perfect for what I want to do. But, now it looks like I will have to return it and not suggest it to anyone. Please advise. Since calling technical support is about as useless as ever. One tech told me to "reformat my SD card"? What kind of training do they get? I've been a professional videographer, and a highly technical phone support person, and I got a tell you, Kodak is seriously lacking. I want help, competent help. Please some one at a professional level tell me how to resolve this issue. Thank you.

Comment: Why don't Kodak and Apple cooperate? Seems neither writes code for the other's products. Pity!

Comment: Mary Irene, Please keep us posted on their findings. We're really trying to love this camera!

Comment: Mary-Irene, this is an excellent example of the vertical streaks many people are having issues with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXRtq82V9K8 Hope that helps you discern what the problem may be. Please let us know if this might be remedied with software or whether it will require a camera repair. Thank you for following up on this for us.

Comment: hi Mary Irene. A few days ago I updated my zx1 firmware to the latest 1.06 version (haven't tested it yet). However, yesterday I noticed that the firmware page had reverted to the old page showing the old 1.05 firmware. And no warnings or info about the change.
Do you know what's going on? Is the new 1.06 firmware safe?
Also, could you please forward a request of firmware improvement? Since the zx1 is advertised as "action camera" it only makes sense to me that the badly needed EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) should be included in the firmware like it is on her "city sister" the zi8. Thanks
Mike

Comment: Hi Chris, thanks for your post and for contacting us about this. We're interested in seeing the video to learn more about what you're experiencing and why. If you have posted it online, could you please send us the link? Or if the file size is 100MB or less, you can use a service like YouSendIt to provide the sample. Thank you very much for your purchase -- we really want to make sure you're satisfied. Mary-Irene

Comment: Carl, to answer your question regarding system requirements and upload- you should have no issues at all. With your current CPU speed, playback at 1080p may not be optimal, but uploading should not be an issue. Hope this helps, Mary-Irene

Comment: Just got the Zi8 two weeks ago and have been loving it so far. Have been shooting a lot of customer videos with it. The clear plastic window thingy that goes over the lens fell off mine though and I have no idea where it went. Any thoughts on where or how to order a replacement part? I don't even really know what the part is called to be able to do a search for it and order it. Any help is much appreciated!

Comment: Jennifer, I want to buy the camera, so I'm just wondering if it is possible with my setup to show the videos on my HDTV but also upload them to facebook. I haven't bought it yet, so haven't tried it. Should I expect any problems with my configuration even though it is below the recommended requirements? Thanks for your quick reply!

Comment: Carl - Have you tried shooting at 720p instead of 1080p? You definitely don't need 1080 for Facebook- it's too big. You also have the option to shoot WVGA.

Comment: Chris, good morning! Thanks for your question. Once you upgrade to the latest firmware, you will notice a difference in how smoothly the device transitions from 0x to 4x digital zoom. Hope this helps. Mary-Irene

Comment: Mary-Irene, On the Zi8, what should I expect with the improved digital zoom in the FW update. I've had mine for less than 24 hrs. so I don't want to miss the change.
Thanks

Comment: Hi Adrian, this is Mary-Irene from Kodak. Thanks for your comment. There currently is no way to turn the LCD off during shooting, but that's a great suggestion for future product. A couple things you can do to improve your battery life is shut your camera off after you are done shooting, rather than wait for the auto shut-down. The Zi8 starts up so fast, you won't miss your next shot by doing this. Also, you should charge your battery often. Don't wait for it to be completely used before doing so. Hope this helps! MIM

Comment: I have Zi8 with 1.05v FW.
Is there a way to turn off the display during a long recording to conserve the battery life? I know you can dim it, but that doesn't help much.
Thank you for any help,
Adrian
